Of the many great poker players that have graced the likes of the poker world - Doyle Brunson is probably the "grand daddy" of them all. He is known as one of the most famous players to pave the way for many poker players and enthusiasts to come. More than thousands of people know of Doyle Brunson, yet few really know the story that happens to be behind the man.
Brunson was born on the day of Aug. 10, 1933 in the town of Longworth, Tx. He was a very good athlete during his days in high school and had shown some interest in playing professional basketball, until an injury put his plans of making a career in that aspect, out of reach. As a young man, Doyle then put his dreams of becoming a pro athlete to the side and started earning an education in administrative education. Before completing his education, he played poker every now and then and found that the game was something that he liked and possibly wanted to pursue.
After Brunson received his masters degree, he then worked for a while as a salesman and soon after he started, went to a poker game, won more money than his job at the time could provide in a month within only a few hours and decided to play professionally. During his earlier poker playing days, Doyle was involved with a few illegal poker games. Some of these games even resulting in what could have proven to be dangerous and even fatal - as he has had guns pulled on him on many occasions, been robbed by others an even beaten and physically assaulted at times.
In the early 1960's, Doyle met the woman that would come to be his wife after some years, and four children (three girls and one boy followed). In the seventies, he packed up his family and they made the big decision to move to Las Vegas where his poker career and gaming could flourish as he pleased. Between then and the eighties, he also came out with a few books on poker as well that many people following his career literally jumped on in order to try and emulate this poker great's playing skills. In 2005, Doyle Brunson had won his 10th WSOP bracelet, which is an astonishing achievement at any rate. In 2004, Brunson brought home a whopping prize totaling over one million dollars from a WPT event.
Brunson's son, Todd Brunson, is also a professional poker player as well and has won a WSOP bracelet as well, making them the very first dad and son combo to win them. It's of no surprise at all why so many people look up to him, since has changed the name of the game and how so many people look at it now at days. Doyle has literally changed the face of the world of poker, the techniques and methods involved and how the game is played as a whole. Since then, he has won many tournaments and competitions that have earned him a permanent place as one of the best poker players in the world.
